In keeping with my orientation, I only ever think of 'Western' designations being possible out here. You know, Western Cardinal, Western Mockingbird, Western Shrike, etc.
The possibility of 'Northern' named critter here in AZ opens up a whole new taxonomic world...

P.S. you need to get out to Arizona this summer in later July to remedy that lack of Hummingbird/dead mammal situation. With respect to the lizard, I do not know if it is a Western Fence Lizard, but remember that lizard we caught in Kentucky? I believe it was a Northern Fence Lizard. http://www.iowavoice.com/2009/01/21/northern-fence-lizard/ Now all you need are the Eastern Fence Lizard and the Southern Fence Lizard and you will have viewed every directional fence lizard.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04992333612634825161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5791077723521794200.post-17649085318411470892013-05-02T02:36:50.546-07:002013-05-02T02:36:50.546-07:00Great post as ever . . what a pleasure it was to w...Great post as ever . . what a pleasure it was to wander those dry washes with you and your sharp eyes . . and even sharper wit! I do miss me some Sonoran.

That is a type of sideblotch (side-blotched?) lizard I believe, they have a lot more patterning above than fence lizards, and don't appear as scaly. The inky spot behind the front armpit is the "blotch", its often more obvious.Seagull Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01851438505719552645noreply@blogger.com
