They are known to do this behavior, called 'orbing', when foraging in dense vegetation or when revolutionary Frenchmen are nearby. As an educator in the public school/charter system, I can vouch that the AZ government doesn't compensate for much, but I'll plead my case nonetheless.

Well, I guess a few weeks from now will be goodbye. Honduras, I can only imagine, will ruin you, and you'll never bother with the North American birding scene again.
Elegant Trogons there are known as 'Northern Hum Drum Trogon'Laurence Butlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14766876797454283812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5791077723521794200.post-14868162247108891232015-05-10T13:39:55.706-07:002015-05-10T13:39:55.706-07:00Trogons! Still, I can't imagine the joys of finding them in your own home turf. And Painted Redstarts - good lord, man! I hope the Arizona tourism board compensates you for the droves of birders you entice, Pied Piper-like, to the dusty mountains of the Grand Canyon State.Nicholas Martenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04430793036041198643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5791077723521794200.post-31382945837668178622015-05-08T13:56:48.661-07:002015-05-08T13:56:48.661-07:00Great idea Chris. I can now say that I've seen a Flammulated Owl as it flew over my head, but with the dark starry skies at 3 in the morning, my visual was less than stellar. I did feel the wing beats as it softly hooted over me. Same with the BCNI. Epic birds. I'm going to the Huachucas this Sunday early and trying my hand at some of the specialties:) Nice post!Rohrerbothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02136631378931478644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5791077723521794200.post-13035731245455917052015-05-08T09:41:51.801-07:002015-05-08T09:41:51.801-07:00Well well, I guess a little trip down south again ...Well well, I guess a little trip down south again must be in order for you this June!Laurence Butlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14766876797454283812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5791077723521794200.post-8290111233131958432015-05-08T08:33:36.986-07:002015-05-08T08:33:36.986-07:00Those are some nice birds and photos Mr. Laurence!...Those are some nice birds and photos Mr. Laurence!
